If you've been reading our Pence Kia blog, you've probably come to the conclusion that Kia is an extremely environmentally-conscious brand. That assumption is certainly true, as the brand has planned quite a few green initiatives this year to continue its dedication to putting the environment at the forefront of its business operations.

This year, Kia is concentrating on lowering the emissions and fuel consumption of its vehicles across its entire lineup, as well as providing more eco-friendly literature to its customers to help them make "greener" product choices. In addition, Kia is also asking its suppliers to take on more eco-friendly production methods.

Because manufacturing parts is one of the largest parts of a vehicle's CO2 after  usage, making up between 10 to 15 percent of a mid-size sedan's emissions, Kia has been working with its biggest supplier since 2003 to build environmental management systems. In 2006, the program was extended to tier two and tier three suppliers, as well.

To "green" up its own factories, Kia has created a coalition of 68 environmental experts to determine ways that the brand can improve. The group was gathered last year, so their findings from 2012 are now being implemented in 2013 at the brand's three largest South Korean manufacturing plants.
