Heard about the new Kia Soul Electric? No? Don't worry, you're not behind the times. For a little while now, the idea of an all-electric Soul has been quietly circling the rumor pool but it's just recently that the first semblance of an official word has hit the scene.
Benny Oeyen, the automaker's European Marketing Director, spilled the beans at the launch of the refreshed Kia Sorento by saying that the Kia Soul Electric would head to Europe. Of course, other officials are currently keeping their lips tight.
One Kia spokesperson in particular, Scott McKee, hints of a potential EV arrival in the United States but won't give up any information. McKee says, "As you know, Kia Motors America is constantly evaluating the U.S. market in search of opportunity...including electric. We'll be launching a lot of exciting new products and technologies over the next year, but at this point, I don't have any news to share about an electric Soul."1
Before an electrified Soul makes its way to any market, the auto will be going through a major revamp. This fresh new variant will likely appear for the first time as early as the Chicago Auto Show in February or the New York Auto Show in April.
