Thanks to a string of eight consecutive months of sales records, 2015 was the best sales year ever for Kia Motors America (KMA). The automaker finished the year up 8 percent over 2014, and surpassed the 600,000-unit mark for the first time, totaling 625,818. Kia ended the year on a high note, selling 54,241 vehicles in December, an increase of 19 percent over December 2014, and a company record for the month.
Some of the highlights for the year were:
- Optima set a single nameplate record, with 159,414 units sold.
- The CUV duo of Sportage and Sorento increased YOY sales by 16.9 percent.
- The company celebrated its 6 millionth vehicle sold in the U.S. since 1994.
Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP for KMA commented on the achievement. “Even without the benefit of a truck in our lineup, Kia began 2015 as one of Yahoo!’s ‘hottest brands’ and it only got better from there as we outperformed the record-setting industry and posted big gains in several passenger car and CUV segments,” he said. “The new Kia is a recognized leader in design, quality, advanced technology and value, and with three all-new products scheduled to launch in 2016, we will continue challenging everything people think they know about this brand and our world-class products.”
