A new crossover will be joining the Kia lineup in 2017, but there's more to it than meets the eye. Named after the Niro prototype of 2013, the new crossover is the first in the brand's stable to offer a hybrid-exclusive powertrain. We got our first look at the car today at the kickoff of the Chicago Auto Show.

The Niro boasts a design that is sleeker than most crossovers, with a .29 drag coefficient that will greatly boost gas mileage. But gas mileage--which is preliminarily rated at 50 mpg--is only part of the story with this new model. Kia designers claim that the car will be magnitudes more fun to drive than competing models, which should serve it well in an increasingly crowded market place.
