It's said that at some point, everyone makes mistakes, and, unfortunately, automakers are not exempt from this phenomenon. Our favorite auto brand, Kia, along with its companion company, Hyundai know when it's time to admit a mistake- and how to make things right. In the wake of a discovery about overstated gas mileage claims on several new vehicles, the automakers are setting out to reimburse owners of nearly 1.1 million vehicles in North America (900,000 in the U.S. and 172,000 in Canada).

Hyundai and Kia share the same parent company, and they've said that the fuel discrepancies, including overestimated fuel economy ratings on window stickers, resulted from errors during their "coast-down" testing process, which takes place at a joint plant in Korea.

Jesse Toprak, Senior Analyst at TrueCar, discusses the impact the discovery will have on the brand, stating, "However, even with the correction, the fundamentals of what made Hyundai and Kia brands a success in the U.S. do not change. They still offer some of the best value propositions in the industry, along with attractive styling and low cost of ownership."1

The most important aspect of this situation is to remember that the Kia brand has, and will continue to, offer some of the most impressive, cost-efficient vehicles on the market. To discover the new Kia vehicles that are still some of the most fuel-efficient models around, be sure to visit Pence Kia, located at 11901 Midlothian Turnpike Midlothian, VA 23113, and don't hesitate to contact us at (804) 378-3000 with any questions you may have.
